THE UNIVERSITY AND THE LIBRARY
The University Library, which is a highly valued partner in teaching and

Sterling Memorial Library and 22 school and departmental libraries. It
employs a dynamic and innovative staff of nearly 600 FTE who have the
opportunity to work with the highest caliber of faculty and students,
participate on committees and are involved in other areas of staff
development. A full spectrum of library resources, from rare books and
manuscripts to rapidly expanding network of electronic resources,
constitutes one of Yale's distinctive strengths. The Library is engaged in
numerous digital initiatives designed to provide access to a full array of
scholarly information. Yale is a member of the Program for Cooperative
Cataloging and contributes to the NACO and BIBCO Programs. For additional
information on the Yale University Library, please visit the Library's Web
site at: http://www.library.yale.edu/.
ARTS LIBRARY VISUAL RESOURCES
One of five operating units of the Arts Library at Yale University, Arts
Library Visual Resources consists of ca. 260,000 35 mm slides, 60,000
lantern slides (one of the largest collections still in consistent use),
190,000 mounted photographs (portions of which are also heavily used), and a
growing collection of over 40,000 digital images made available on the
campus network primarily through the Luna Insight interface. The ALVR serves
the arts area community by providing current course support in the form of
slide and digital image production for classroom and study use. The ALVR
also serves the Yale community outside of the arts by making its extant
collections available for classroom and lecture use. The ALVR currently has
a staff of 4 FTE.
