Dear Conference Attendees,
FYI.
Laura Gordon-Murnane will be the speaker at "The Invisible Web and More"
on Sunday, March 23, 10:30-Noon, in International A, B, and C. Ms.
Murname has co-presented with Gary Price (author, The Invisible Web) at
library conferences. Laura Gordon-Murnane has recently authored “Access
to Government Information in the Post 9/11 World” (Searcher Magazine,
June 2002) and “Electronic Freedom of Information Act” (Searcher
Magazine, April 1998). She has an MA in History from Indiana University
and an MLS from University of Maryland. During the 4 years she ran her
own business research company, she honed her considerable Web searching
skills, locating information that was not easily accessible using
standard Web tools. She is employed by the Bureau of National Affairs, a
leading legal publisher, and she manages their Intranet.
In this session, she will cover:
a) the Invisible Web—what is it?
b) new developments in search engines
c) tips on staying current with Web resources
d) recommended, inexpensive web tools to improve your searching
e) hidden art and architecture resources, and
f) the latest developments in image searching on the Web.
Gary Price, previously scheduled to speak, regrets being unable to
attend. He has offered to put together "Gary's Summer School" for ARLIS
members; this promises to be a a series of virtual session of tips for
navigating the Invisible Web. Watch for details.
