We have the same problem here, especially with brand new, slippery shelving.
One of our volunteers who was is a retired librarian, suggested we try a
"shelf tape" which makes the shelf surface non-skid. I found the tape in
the Gaylord, Highsmith, and Brodart catalogs. I haven't ordered it yet so
can't comment on its effectiveness.
