Acquisitions Librarian
The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute Library invites applications
for the position of Acquisitions Librarian. Reporting to the Chief
Librarian, the Acquisitions Librarian will work with the collections
development staff to implement various methods for ordering and processing
library materials, including approval plans, gift and exchange programs,
and emerging technologies in electronic ordering. The Clark Art Institute
Library currently houses a collection of 200,000 volumes, 150,000 slides,
1,500,000 reproductions of works of art, and growing special collections,
archives, and electronic resources. The library uses an Innovative
Interfaces acquisitions module and is scheduled to implement the Millennium
upgrade of that module in fall 2001. The Acquisitions Librarian will
oversee that implementation and develop new procedures. The Acquisitions
Librarian will also participate in collections development policy
decision-making and, depending upon qualifications, share with the Chief
Librarian in the selection of new library materials. Additional duties
include bibliographic searching, coordinating acquisitions procedures with
the collections management unit, and ensuring training of librarians and
support staff.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a graduate degree in art history or
related field, an accredited MLS, and two years experience in a museum or
university library, or an equivalent combination of education and
experience; working knowledge of the international market for art
historical literature and visual materials; knowledge of relevant library
and visual resources standards; working knowledge of one or more western
European languages; and working experience with RLIN and an integrated
library system. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate strong
interpersonal, communication and analytical skills; strong commitment to
excellence in service; and flexibility and ability to work creatively in a
collaborative and rapidly changing environment.
