Our Friends of the Library Group wants to write a letter to the Museum's
Director and Director of Development requesting an endowed fund for library
acquisitions be included in the Museum's next capital campaign. They would
like to make a case for the request by showing that our library's
acquisitions fund is much smaller than that of other museums of a comparable
size. We are considered to be a medium sized museum with library holdings
of approximately 48,000 volumes. We do have the very useful survey of small
musuem libraries done by Joan Benedetti which includes the total budget of
the museums and the libraries, but does not break out the amount of money
spent on library acquisitions. If anyone would be willing to provide me
with this information, it would be used strictly for comparison purposes and
kept in confidence. Thank you very much in advance of any help you are able
to provide.

Subject: [ARLIS-L] Reminder: closing date for Research Award
applications
The deadline approaches for applications to the three research awards:
Friday, November 4th.
Thanks to our sponsors---H.W. Wilson and Worldwide Books---the ARLIS
Research Awards Committee asks for submissions and nominations for the
three prizes to be given in 2006.
The best information is at the Awards website:
http://www.arlisna.org/about/awards/awards_index.html#research, but to
summarize:
The H.W. Wilson Foundation Research Grant, for expenses related
to research projects up to $2,000.
The Worldwide Books Award for Publications, for books, essays,
articles, or edited collections from 2004 or 2005, with up to $1,500.
The Worldwide Books Award for Electronic Resources, for digital
projects or publications from 2004 or 2005, with up to $1,500.
Each category could recognize multiple awardees, and applicants may
apply for more than one award. Many winners in the past have produced
work in art history or librarianship, but any scholarly project is
eligible.
The Research Committee will notify winners, nominees and sponsors by the
end of December. Awards will be presented and publicized next May, in
Banff.
Please nominate yourself, ARLIS members you know, or whose work you have
admired.
Applications should go by postal mail or e-mail attachment to me, or to
Terrie Wilson, at Michigan State University, 100 Library, Lansing, MI
48824; [log in to unmask] If you have questions, please contact
Terrie or me.
