TITLE: Architecture Librarian
CATEGORY: Non-Tenured Faculty, Full Time (12 Month
Appointment)
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Comprehensive Benefits.
The Architecture Library, a branch of the UM Libraries, is
centrally located in the School of Architecture. The
library's mission is to provide resources and services to
meet the instructional and research needs of the School of
Architecture, the school's program in Urban Studies and
Planning, the program in Landscape Architecture, and the
program in Historic Preservation. The Library maintains and
develops collections in the areas of architectural history,
design and theory; urban planning and design; landscape
architecture and building technology. The Architecture
librarian is a member of the Arts and Humanities Team,
which also includes members from the Art Library, the
Performing Arts Library and McKeldin Library, the central
library on campus.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Architecture Librarian serves as
liaison to faculty in the School of Architecture; provides
specialized research support, user education, and
consultation services; develops and manages print and
electronic collections; identifies user needs; may
supervise support staff. Works collaboratively with the
Arts and Humanities Team to develop collections and
services. Participates in ongoing and special team-based
programs and projects. Reports to the Arts/Humanities Team
Leader for reference, instruction, and collection
management responsibilities and to the Head of Art and
Architecture Libraries for facilities and operational
matters.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA-accredited Master's
degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent
advanced degree; subject background demonstrated through
academic degrees, course work, or substantive library
experience. Excellent oral and written communication
skills; experience in collection development and
management, especially with electronic resources;
experience in providing reference service and user
instruction; commitment to user education and outreach
services; experience in creating and/or maintaining Web
sources; ability to work in a team environment. Preferred:
Experience in a large academic/research library or
architectural firm library with appointment to Library
Faculty rank dependent on credentials and experience;
second master's degree in architectural history or a
professional degree in architecture; foreign language
ability.
