----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Holiday greetings to all ARLIS Members! Here is a brief update on the activities of the ARLIS/NA Diversity Committee: The Diversity Committee members for ARLIS/NA are Gladys Markoff and Claudia Hill, Co-chairs, Louis Adrean, Executive Board Liason, Eric Schwab, Marilyn Russell-Bogle, Pedro Figueredo, Lauren Lessing and Meg Cunningham. We welcome ARLIS members to our Business Meeting on Saturday, March 18, 2000, from 5:30-7:00pm in Pittsburgh. Items on the agenda are the appointment of a new Chair and three new committee members for the coming year. If you are interested in joining the Diversity Committee, have agenda items or great ideas for future programs, please contact Gladys or Claudia at [log in to unmask], [log in to unmask] or (212) 316-5789. "Access to Access: Library Building Accessibility" is the Ask ARLIS session we are sponsoring at ARLIS/NA 2000 Annual Conference. The speakers in this session will give examples of issues they faced in creating barrier-free environments for individuals with physical disabilities and offer solutions for access and service. In addition, the Diversity Committee is co-sponsoring GLIRT's session at the conference. We have submitted a proposal to Katy Poole, ARLIS/NA Membership Committee Chair, suggesting that ARLIS/NA adopt on the membership form questions to identify language proficiencies among ARLIS members. It is our hope that a compiled list of members with language abilities, including sign language, will aid ARLIS in providing language assistance to non-English speakers at our conferences. Pedro Figueredo is updating our Web page with additional links to sites pertinent to Diversity issues and especially those relevant to the Americans with Disability Act and library building accessibility. We look forward to seeing you all in Pittsburgh at the ARLIS/NA 2000 Annual Conference. __________________________________________________________________ Mail submissions to [log in to unmask] Administrative matters (file requests, subscription requests, etc) to [log in to unmask] ARLIS-L Archives and subscription maintenance: http://lsv.uky.edu/archives/arlis-l.html Questions may be addressed to list owner at: [log in to unmask]
