Library Technician (Student Assistant/Cataloging)

The National Gallery of Art Library is seeking applicants for a student
assistant position in the Cataloging Section of the Technical Services
Department. The primary purpose of the position is to assist with the
processing of newly cataloged library materials.

Duties include preparing and affixing labels and barcodes to newly
cataloged library materials; creating item-level and status records on the
library's local online system; and assisting with special projects in the
Cataloging Section as needed.

Applicants should have the ability to type and file accurately; a basic
knowledge of library collections; a general understanding of  the Library
of Congress classification system; familiarity with the operation of
personal computers, and an ability to work cooperatively with other staff
members.  Familiarity with library technical services operations is
desirable.

In order to qualify for this position, applicants must be registered at least
as a half-time student, and be able to provide certification of student
status, including a current class schedule. Students may work full-time
or part-time schedules. There are no limitations on the number of hours a
student can work per week, but the student's work schedule should not
interfere with the student's academic schedule. The incumbent earns
sick and annual leave based on the number of hours worked.
