HEAD, SYSTEMS DEPARTMENT

The Linda Hall Library, an independent research library of science,
 engineering, and technology, and the Spencer Art Reference Library of
the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, have an opening for the position of Head
of the Systems Department.  The position has the responsibility for all
systems activities within the Linda Hall Library (50% of the position), and
for LEONARDO, the Ameritech Horizon system for Linda Hall and the Spencer
Art Reference Library of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (50% of the
position.

This position reports to the Technical and Automated Services Officer
and supervises 3 Systems Assistants.

Linda Hall Library provides challenges and exceptional opportunities
for flexible and dedicated staff. Current and recent systems projects
include the following: WWW home pages; implementation of full image
retrieval and ILL/Document Delivery systems.

Qualifications

Required: ALA-accredited master's degree or equivalent library
experience. Experience with, or course work in, local area networking and/or
TCP/IP interconnectivity. Demonstrated enthusiasm and aptitude for acquiring
new technical skills and working effectively in teams.  Excellent
communication and interpersonal skills. Flexibility, initiative, energy, and
problem-solving skills. Commitment to continued professional
development. Desire to work in an exciting, fast-paced work environment.

Preferred: Knowledge of and experience with Ameritech's Horizon
software, and MARC / OCLC / RLIN highly desirable. Experience with, or
knowledge of, the following: Unix; Windows 3.1, 95, and NT 4.0 (workstation
and Server); Apple Macintosh; SQL and report writing software; Internet
applications including HTML, e-mail, FTP servers, WWW servers, etc.;
documentation; training; systems analysis; networking CD-ROM products; and
large, multi-site integrated library systems, preferably client-server
based.

Salary: Consistent with appropriate experience and qualifications of
candidate.
