----------------------------Original message---------------------------- ------------------ NCSU Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Head, Design Library. The Harrye B. Lyons Design Library is located in the School of Design and serves a primary clientele of 50 faculty and 600 students. The School of Design comprises four departments -- Architecture, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, and Landscape Architecture. The curriculum supports bachelor=92s and master=92s degrees in all four departments and a Ph.D. degree in Design. Working with the Libraries Digital Library Initiatives department, the Design Library is engaged in a major project to digitize and deliver its slide collection via the Web for classroom instruction. Responsibilities Under the direction of the Associate Director for Public Services, has management and administrative responsibility for the Design Library. Plans, develops, and delivers responsive and innovative services. Supervises 2.5 FTE support staff, a half-time Library Fellow, plus student assistants. Offers leadership in creating services that incorporate new information technology into teaching, learning, and meeting user needs. Works closely with administrators, faculty, staff, and students in developing library collections and services. Develops and maintains a library Web site, and provides content updates to My Library=40NCState web site in the areas of art, architecture, and design. Working closely with the Collection Management Department and as a member of the Humanities and Social Sciences Subject Team, selects, evaluates, and manages book, journal, and slide collections of the Design Library. Leads a team from the Digital Library Initiatives and Cataloging departments to digitize slide images and provide access to these images through a structured database. Responsible for planning, budget, personnel, and facilities management. Serves as a member of the School of Design library committee, and the Libraries' Management Council and Public Services group. Participates in library-wide planning activities and is expected to be active professionally. Qualifications Required: ALA-accredited MLS. Substantial experience with print and visual materials in architecture, art, or design. Knowledge of applications of current and emerging technologies as they contribute to meeting the needs of researchers and students. Excellent interpersonal skills=3B evidence of effective collaboration with researchers, faculty, and students=3B ability to communicate clearly, knowledgeably, and personably, orally and in writing. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Administrative or supervisory experience. Preferred: Academic background or substantial working experience in at least one of the subject disciplines supported by the library. Direct experience with slide collections.
