----------------------------Original message---------------------------- ------------------ Those reasons sound convincing. I would certainly like to help organize an = ARLIS conference here (if you think it is interesting enough). BJ would be one of = the major attractions. By the way, our museum will also be expanding big time including the = library. Ribbon cutting should happen in 2004. I hope we will get a flashy, = interesting architect to do the job. =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D Ursula Kolmstetter Head Librarian, Stout Reference Library Indianapolis Museum of Art 1200 West 38th Street Indianapolis, IN 46208 USA Tel.: 317-920-2662, ext. 225 Fax: 317-926-8931 e-mail: ukolmstetter=40ima-art.org =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D== 3D =3E=3E=3E Katharine Martinez =3Ckmartin=40fas.harvard.edu=3E 11/22 1:45 PM = =3E=3E=3E ----------------------------Original message---------------------------- I think all the suggested future sites sound terrific. Just to complicate matters I'd like to add Indianapolis. The Indianapolis Museum of Art is the seventh largest art museum in the US. In nearby Bloomington there's the Indiana University Art Museum, the Lilly Library's extraordinary collections of rare books and manuscripts, and a fabulous Thomas Hart Benton mural in the University Auditorium. Another major reason for ARLIS to go to Indianapolis: the presence of BJ Irvine at IU, which for me, makes Bloomington the center of the ARLIS/VRA universe. (Can you tell I'm a former student?) =2AAnd=2A in case you need another reason to want to go: = the nearby town of Columbus, Indiana contains an extraordinary number of buildings by important architects -- check out http://www.cornishproductions.com/Place/Columbus/Columbus1.html. The local members may wish I'd kept my mouth shut. I do appreciate how much work it would mean for them to organize a conference in Indianapolis with trips to Bloomington and Columbus. And I do recognize that ARLIS is not responsible for helping me find an excuse to (re)visit Indiana.
