The McCracken Research Library where I work treats auction catalogs as
periodicals and shelves them together by auction house and then in
chronological order. We only make brief catalog entries which list the main
content of the auction.

Subject: classifying auction catalogs

I would be interested to know what other
academic libraries do about classifying
auction catalogs--keep them together,
or scatter them by subject? Please
tell me your arguments in support of
your practice. Thanks.
