----------------------------Original message---------------------------- POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF WOMEN IN THE ARTS Title: Archivist Reports to: Director of the Library and Research Center Summary of Position: The archivist is responsible for administering and maintaining the National Museum of Women in the Arts Archives in accordance with standard archival practices. She/he evaluates the records of the museum for permanent retention and updates the retention schedule. She/he makes decisions regarding storage space and advises staff on archival supplies. The archivist establishes and executes written policies regarding acquisitions, donations, access and preservation of archival materials and maintains operations manual. In addition, she/he processes, arranges and creates finding aids to important collections of artists papers and other materials housed in the Library and Research Center. The archivist will be responsible, in collaboration with the cataloger, for entering information about the NMWA Archives holdings into an automated system. She/he will also provide reference service to the museum staff and outside researchers. The position is full-time. Salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience. Qualifications: * At least three years of experience in a museum archive or an art-related institution. * An M.L.S. degree with courses in Archives or comparable degree. * Supervisory and administrative experience, strong organizational skills, proficiency in oral and written communications, and ability to work as part of a team. * Familiarity with working with LAN (Local Area Network) environment. * Experience with cataloging according to archival standards as found in MARC, APPM and AAT. * Familiarity with special formats such as videotapes, audiotapes, architectural drawings and models. Ability to process and preserve these special formats.
