(Salary range:  $22,208-$28,868 per annum)

The National Gallery of Art Library is seeking qualified applicants for a
full-time position at the Circulation Desk of the Reader Services Section.
Duties include performing circulation operations and services to the
curatorial and administrative staff and visitors; providing general
information and instruction on circulation procedures and the proper
handling of library materials; maintaining a system of circulation controls
and files for current charges, discharges, renewals, reserves, and
recalls using  VTLS, the Library's automated system; monitoring special
loans to borrowers; assisting with the maintenance of the Library's
collection; retrieving and reshelving Library materials; and performing
bibliographic checking as required.

Candidates must meet the Qualifications Standards Handbook
requirements for GS-1411-5. This requires either 4 years of education
above the high school level OR at least one year of specialized
experience equivalent to the GS-4 level in the Federal service.
Specialized experience is experience that is directly related to this
position and has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge,
skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position successfully.
Federal status candidates must meet the time-in-grade requirements of
having been at the GS-4 level for at least one year.

Applicants meeting the minimum qualification requirements will be
evaluated against these factors to determine the best-qualified
candidates:

1. Knowledge of Library of Congress classification system (SELECTIVE
FACTOR)
2. Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation
3. Ability to deal and interact with a wide variety of individuals, both in
person and over the telephone, using tact and diplomacy
4. Familiarity with Western European languages (French, German, and/or
Italian)
