Librarian

Yale Center for British Art

The Center seeks a librarian to direct its Reference Library of 20,000
volumes, a Photo Archive of 200,000 images, and a staff of four.  The
librarian manages all reader services, including reference and research,
acquisitions and collection development.  The librarian participates in
senior management decision-making and reports to the Director.  The Center
comprises the largest collection of British art outside of the United
Kingdom and operates both as a public art museum and as a research and
teaching center of the University.  The collection, building, and endowment
are the singular gift of Paul Mellon, Class of '29.

The successful candidate must have an MLS from an ALA-accredited library
school and at least five years of professional experience in an academic
library and possess a knowledge and interest in British art.  The candidate
must have experience and detailed knowledge of new library
technology.  Application deadline: December 15, 1999.
