Art librarians:

I was given a list of about 1500 slides from a history of photography
professor. The slide collection is his; he made all the slides from his vast
collection of books to project in class. I need to sort this list by
copyright status. I am looking for a database that might list some of the
titles/authors of images that are in the public domain.
