----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Smart barcodes are nothing more than regular barcodes plus item- and library-specific data spelled out in human-readable English (or other) language. For example, the book "Advertures of Greek Heroes" would have a barcode for its item number. Under (or above) the barcode would be the title spelled out, the call number, any other data you'd want to have displayed on the barcode label. Here is an example (from http://www.nicholsinc.com/products/bclabels.html) [Image] Smart barcodes are typically produced at retrospective conversion time when huge batches of records are processed. To print them after is less cost effective an cumbersome because you have to enter all the data yourself and print individual labels. It is my opinion that smart barcodes are overkill. --Donna Jennifer Brasher wrote: > ----------------------------Original message---------------------------- > Hi Genni et Al, > > Can anyone enlighten us about smart barcodes?
