PROJECT ARCHIVIST

The Dallas Museum of Art seeks a professional Archivist  to formulate and
implement the Archives and Records Management programs for the Dallas Museum
of Art.  The Archivist will plan the programs and storage spaces, and
institute procedures in consultation with the Head of Libraries and
Archives.

The Dallas Museum will celebrate its 100th year in 2003.  The candidate will
plan and create storage methods which lend to efficient access of materials
now and in the future, and will also identify and make accessible materials
that are critical to planning centennial celebrations.  Start-up funds for
founding the Archives and two years of funding for the Archivist position
are made possible by grants from the Fondren and Hoblitzelle Foundations.

Regular duties of the archivist will be to accession, arrange, describe and
preserve the permanent records of the Dallas Museum of Art in textual,
architectural, audio/visual and multimedia formats according to accepted
archival standards.  (Photographic archives are maintained in the Visual
Resource Library.)  The archivist will also conduct oral histories of
individuals and identify institutions closely associated with the DMA from
which private manuscript collections might be solicited.  The archivist will
provide reference service to the staff and public and will also oversee the
management of temporary institutional records.

Qualifications:  M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent degree.
At least one year experience in arranging, rehousing, describing and
cataloging organization records and personal papers.  Familiarity with APPM.
Excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to collaborative
working processes.  Salary commensurate with experience, excellent benefits
