----------------------------Original message---------------------------- [Please forgive any duplication of this message.] Dear Colleagues: The PBS Adult Learning Service in conjunction with Dallas TELElearning is holding a live interactive satellite broadcast entitled "Libraries, Copyright, and the Internet" on Thursday, October 14, from 2:30-4 PM Eastern Time. Featured panelists are Laura N. Gasaway (Professor of Law and Director of the Law Library, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill), Carrie Russell (Copyright Specialist, Office of Information Technology Policy, American Library Association) and Trisha L. Davis (Visiting Program Officer on electronic resources licensing, Association of Research Libraries, and Associate Professor/Head of Serials and Electronic Resources, The Ohio State University Libraries). Topics to be covered include discussion of "fair use," licensing guidelines, and how libraries' use of electronic resources are likely to be affected by the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA) and the Sonny Bono Copyright Extension Act. According to the program brochure, "Rather than simply outline the rules, experts discuss copyright principles raised in videotaped scenarios of real-world use. They then take live questions via phone and fax from satellite sites." A site licensing fee of $400 applies. This includes permission to downlink the program, to transmit the program on an internal system, and to make one videotape of the program.
