ABOUT THE COLLECTION
The Haupt Collection in the library of the University of Hannover
comprises more than 1,500 books dealing with architectural history and
art history, dating from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century. The
100 titles selected from the collection for this microfiche project
cover a broad range of subjects regarding the design and lay-out of
gardens, including technological issues, garden ornaments, garden
buildings, plant use, and horticulture. They include classic works such
as Salomon de Caus' Hortus Palatinus (1620), Antoine Joseph D=E9zaillier
d'Argentville's La Theorie et la Pratique du Jardinage (1739), and
Christian Cay Lorenz Hirschfeld Theorie der Gartenkunst (1779-85), as
well as lesser known - but nevertheless important - works.

In October 1999 the garden design titles from the Haupt Collection will
be published in a printed sales catalogue. In this catalogue we will
add, as a separate section, 42 titles on garden design from already
existing IDC collections (Botany, Architectural History, Western Books
on China).
