The exhibit will be on display in the Erie County Room of the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society, 25 Nottingham Court, Buffalo, New York. By seeing "Art of the Erie Canal," visitors can experience what a four-day trip from Albany to Buffalo along the Canal was like, at a time when taking packet boats led by mules was the fastest way to travel. The exhibit features paintings and prints from the Canajoharie Library and Gallery and nineteenth century oil paintings from Hudson River School artists, who painted the Canal as they felt it should be remembered. They are enhanced by original paintings, pottery, and other canal-related pieces from the Historical Society's collections, such as Staffordshire plates and pitchers, travel trunks, and other items that tell the story of Buffalo as a bustling commercial hub where the Canal joined with Lake Erie.
