----------------------------Original message----------------------------
ARLIS/NA members should be aware of this proposal by the Library
of Congress for major changes in how time periods and chronological
subdivisions are assigned in art subject cataloging. The proposal has
two sections:
1. Change in assignment of headings for time period.
2. Change in formulation of headings with chronological subdivisions.
The first section is a new proposal. The second section would implement
recommendations made by the Cataloging Advisory Committee on behalf
of ARLIS/NA last year. The Cataloging Advisory Committee will formulate
ARLIS/NA's official response to this proposal, but individuals are
encouraged to respond to LC directly as well. It would also be useful
for CAC to hear from members. Please comment on ARLIS-L or send
messages directly to me.
