ART/ART HISTORY LIBRARIAN

The University of Minnesota Libraries invites applications and nominations
for dynamic and innovative applicants for the position of Art/Art History
Librarian. The individual hired will work in Wilson Library, the
University's Social Sciences and Humanities Library, as part of a team
responsible for reference service, resource development, library
instruction, and faculty liaison.  An important aspect of this position
will be to develop, evaluate, and implement new and effective information
resources, technologies, and services in assigned subject areas.   All
library staff must have the ability to work effectively with a racially and
culturally diverse community of faculty, students, and library colleagues
in a team environment.

DESCRIPTION
=B7 Resource Development:  Serve as subject specialist for art, art history,
and studio arts. Interpret collection strengths, weaknesses, scope, and
plan for future development in light of University strategic and
programmatic needs.  In cooperation with librarians in other disciplines,
maintain responsibility for all aspects of development and management of
resources in electronic and print formats. Oversee Francis V. Gorman Art
Library Endowment, created in 1981 for the enrichment of the art collection.
=B7 Reference Service and Instruction:  Provide reference service during
scheduled hours and by appointment in assigned subject areas, including
services in the Library's digital resource centers.  Provide relevant
instruction to faculty and students, and appropriate training for library
staff.
=B7 Faculty and Staff Liaison:  Serve as principal liaison to the =
Departments
of Art and Art History, the Francis V. Gorman Art Library Endowment
Advisory Board, and appropriate academic departments. Develop working
relationships with the College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture,
the Department of Design, Housing, and Apparel, the Weisman Art Museum, and
other allied departments.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:  ALA accredited M.L.S. or foreign equivalent=3B graduate study in
art, art history, or related fields=3B reading knowledge of at least one
major Western European language, other than English=3B knowledge of
collection development and management functions in assigned or related
subject areas=3B knowledge of electronic resources and their applications in
art or art history=3B strong commitment to library public service=3B =
excellent
oral and written communication skills=3B strong interpersonal skills, and
ability to work effectively with a diverse clientele.
Preferred: Experience in developing innovative uses of electronic
resources, especially using graphics and text data, in a research
environment=3B demonstrated knowledge of Modern Art and/or Asian Art.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
This is a full-time, 12-month, continuous appointment track,
academic/professional position with probationary appointment at the
Assistant or Associate Librarian rank. Rank will depend on qualifications
and experience consistent with collegiate and University policy. The
Libraries offers a competitive salary, commensurate with experience, but
not less than =2434,000, for this position. Excellent benefits and
substantial moving allowance.

and in the context of the workload and responsibilities assigned to the
individual.  Evidence of such contribution may include work in relevant
professional organizations, relevant professional publication, and/or other
appropriate activities

Associate Librarian:
=A7 has demonstrated a substantial command of assigned areas of professional
responsibility, with evidence of growth and development within the scope of
these responsibilities
=A7 has established and maintains a record of visible active contribution to
the progress of services and operations of his/her University Libraries
department
=A7 will normally be expected to contribute to the advancement of
librarianship through visible professional activity, particularly as these
contribute to the achievement of unit, department, or library objectives,
and in the context of the workload and responsibilities assigned to the
individual.  Evidence of such contributions may include work in relevant
