----------------------------Original message---------------------------- ------------------ Dear Judy Re your message: =5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F== 5F=5F =22I've received a request for some information on an =22obscure=22 = Victorian painter (American, the requestor believes). Name is JOHN SPENCER DOMINY. We have only the =22standard=22 art resources here--ABM, Art Index, etc. and= I haven't been able to find anything by this route. Can anyone suggest better places to look (or even better, find something about him ).=22 =5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F== 5F=5F We have a pretty wide range of biographical dictionaries of artists, particulary British artists, and can only find references to Dominy in a couple of places: Wood, Christopher. Victorian painters (Antique Collectors' Club) which = says: Dominy, J.S. fl.1865-1876 Painter of rustic subjects and coast scenes. Exhibited 5 paintings at the Royal Academy and and 5 paintings at the Royal Society of British Artists. Titles: 'Help by the Wayside', etc. Lived in London and Great Yormouth, and later moved to York, where he worked at the Government Art School. Dominy is also mentioned in Graves, Algernon. A dictionary of = artists...from 1760-1893 (3rd edition, 1903) but this source does not add anything to = Wood. Hope this of some use.
