----------------------------Original message---------------------------- (this announcement is being posted to more than one listserv; please excuse multiple postings) TEMPORARY CLOSURE NOTICE FOR THE ARCHIVES OF THE PHILADELPHIA MUSEUM OF ART Researchers should be advised that the PMA Archives will be embarking upon a major reorganization of the Archives office, which will result in the short-term closure of the department from Monday, April 12 to Friday, May 7, 1999. Although Archives services will be temporarily suspended for a month, the long-term benefits of this project will be additional storage space, as well as improved security, preservation, and accessibility. During the project, researchers are encouraged to put their research requests to the Archivist in writing (either through e-mail or regular mail). Upon the completion of the project, she will answer these inquiries in the order they are received, making these requests a priority until all are answered. Researchers should note that some archivally related materials are available for perusal in the Museum s Library. Included are in-house publications, such as The Bulletin, Annual Reports, exhibition catalogues, and checklists. These resources are readily accessible through indexes or the Library s card catalogue, and contain a considerable amount of information regarding our institutional activities. Also available in the Library is a small amount of microfilmed archival materials which were produced through the Archives of American Art . Copies of these microfilmed records are also accessible through regional centers of the Archives of American Art. Appointments to view the above materials in the Museum Library are recommended. Researchers should also note that the schedule for the reorganization project may be subject to change, and updates will be posted at the Museum's web site . We apologize for any inconvenience that this short-term closure may cause, and thank you for your patience during this transitional period for the PMA Archives. For further information about this temporary closure, please feel free to contact Susan Anderson (see below for contact information). -- Susan K. Anderson, Archivist Philadelphia Museum of Art P.O.
