----------------------------Original message---------------------------- You want to hang onto anything that might have long term historical value. If you haven't been there long and know know a lot of the institutional history it is important to be very careful about discarding records. Some good publications to read before you start is Museum Archives: An Introduction by William A. Deiss and Archives & Manuscripts: Appraisal & Accessioning by Maynard J. Birchford. These are both small publications that won't take long to read. Both are published by the Society of American Archivists.
