This information may have been asked/posted previously on the '-L. I couldn't find it archivally. Apologies for the presumed repetition. - Lee I'd like to gather some informal information concerning the extent to which art history graduate student library instruction is performed by librarians. We at Duke are trying to determine whether we're behind or ahead of the norm in BI for graduate students. Would colleagues who teach introductory classes to graduate students in art history please respond to the BRIEF following questions (to me personally). Names or schools will not be used in summary reports. Many, many thanks! 1. How long is your course instruction? [number of sessions, frequency of sessions, time length of each session] 2. Is your course required by the department or voluntary? 3. Is course credit issued? 4. Are you alone responsible for the content, do you team teach with a faculty member, or other? 5. How would you estimate the time (in per cent) that you devote to each of these areas (you may combine these areas or skip those your don't treat): ___ reference bibliography (books in your reference collection every grad should know about ___ stacks material (books in your stacks that are "must know" for grad students" ___ periodical index searching (both electronic and hard copy) ___ basic www instruction (judging web pages, etc.) ___ www art reference sources ___ other 6. How are the students evaluated for successful completion of your course? ___ written exam passed ___ total attendance ___ sufficient attendance ___ librarian satisfaction of individual students ___ other 7. How long have you/your institution been offering this instruction (years)? 8. Other comments. Lee R.
