This year I was unable to attend the Vancouver Conference. It made me realize all the more strikingly the immense value of these professional meetings, work sessions and information sessions, brainstorming and the face to face exchanges that occur while we are all together for a few days. No amount of written Proceedings or email discussions can replace the Conference experience. It is worth all the effort and expense needed to organize the annual conference; the effort and expense of being a contributor;the time and effort and expense of participating by attending. All forms of participation are important to us as individuals and as professional knowledge workers. The learning experience provided at the annual Conference is an immensely valuable and serious contribution to our professional development.
