The John Cotton Dana Library of Rutgers, The State University of New
Jersey, Campus at Newark, The Newark Museum, The Newark Public Library and
The New Jersey Historical Society cordially invite you to a panel
discussion on
          "The Legacy of John Cotton Dana"
              on Monday, May 17, 2-4pm

in the Dana Room of the Dana Library, 185 University Ave., Newark, NJ

Panelists include:

Dr. Clement Alexander Price, Prof. of History, Chairman of the
Afro-American Studies Dept., and Dir. of the Institute on Ethnicity,
Culture, and the Modern Experience at Rutgers Univ., Newark Campus, who
will speak on "A City of Refinement: Urban Fantasies and Progressivism in
Newark".

Mr. William J. Dane, Supervising Librarian for Special Collections at the
Newark Public Library, who will discuss "John Cotton Dana: The
Trailblazing Librarian as C.E.O.: an Appraisal of the Perpetual Innovator
at Century's End, 1900-1999."

Dr. Carol Duncan, Prof. of History at Ramapo College, who will present
"Dana, Newark and Consumerism."

Dr. Steven J. Diner, Dean of the Faculty at Rutgers Univ., Newark Campus,
who will serve as the commentator.

A reception will follow.

Several members have contributed their time and energy to this final
program of ARLIS/NJ. For those of  you who remember Bill Dane's talk at
ARLIS in San Antonio on Dana, this will be an opportunity to hear more!

This will be the Spring Meeting of ARLIS/NY.
