----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Dear Colleagues: Wait! Before you fill in the Strategic Plan Membership Survey, consider discussing questions 2 and 3 with other ARLIS/NA members in your institution or vicinity. Those of you who attended the Museum Division Business Meeting at the conference in Vancouver will remember that when we posed these two questions* at the meeting, there were so many points raised and so much discussion that we were obliged to curtail the discussion in order to get on with other business. With this spirited response in mind, I met this morning with CCA Library staff who are ARLIS/NA members. We looked at the mission and goals on p.vii of the ARLIS/NA Handbook, and then discussed questions 2 and 3 of the Survey. The results were AMAZING; as at the Business Meeting, the discussion was lively, stimulating and helpful, and at the end we were all eager to share our thoughts with our local chapter colleagues and to report them through the Survey. If you are in a position to use this approach, DO IT; you'll enjoy it, and it will mean truly thoughtful input from the membership as to where ARLIS/NA should be going in the next years. *In case the Survey is not in front of you (What?? Not #1 on your priority list?), the two questions are: What do you think are the most important issues facing the art information field to-day? and Explain how you would like to see ARLIS/NA address the issues you've identified above over the next three years.
