PACIFIC NORTHWEST COLLEGE OF ART JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION DEFINITION: Title: Visual Resources Curator/Librarian Reports to: Dean of Academic Affairs Work Schedule: Full-time (exempt) Pacific Northwest College of Art is a 90 year old institution that is = accredited both nationally and regionally. The College only recently became = independent when it separated from the Portland Art Museum four years ago. While the = two institutions remain close and continue to share a 26,000 volume library, the physical distance between the institutions created a need to develop a new = study collection that is housed at the College. The new librarian, working with = the faculty, will help develop on site a study collection of books, slides and periodicals that will directly support the curriculum of the College. GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for selecting, organizing and providing access to information = needed by the students, faculty and staff of PNCA. Must know a variety of = scholarly and general information sources and anticipate the effect of technological change and trends in the delivery of library services. Such technologies = may affect the acquisition, storage, dissemination and use of information. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Acts as the College's librarian, with leadership responsibility for developing both book and image libraries. 2. Fulfills the professional responsibilities of a librarian, including = areas of collection development, acquisitions, resource and collection management,= and user services. 3. Supervises library personnel, including staff and work study. 4. Works with faculty and the Library Committee to develop and maintain an excellent print image and electronic collection appropriate to the College's curriculum and programs. 5. Plans and monitors the library budget, in consultation with the Dean. 6. Has primary responsibility as slide curator and slide librarian, = including collection oversight, development, monitoring, processing, cataloging and circulation of slides. 7. Providing on site reference assistance as well as supervising work. 8. Performs other duties as required. EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS 1. Master's degree in art-related discipline and/or library or = information science. 2. At least two years experience in a visual resources collection or = college library. 3. Management experience and ability. 4. Knowledge of library circulation, acquisitions and cataloging = procedures. 5. Specialized experience in visual resources use and management, including academic slide processing and curating. 6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 7. Ability to work collegially in an evolving institution. 8. Knowledge of fine and design arts. 9. Familiarity with Filemaker Pro, the Internet, and Windows 95/NT (for = online book cataloging system) preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 1. Ability to see visual and fine print written materials and to = recognize images and colors. 2. Ability to do detailed hand work for stretches of time. 3. Ability to use photography equipment and read computer screen. 4. Ability to speak to library patrons and to answer telephone inquiries. 5. Ability to climb a ladder.
