     CALL FOR PAPERS


     =60BEYOND THE FUTURE'

     Papers are invited for the forthcoming ARLIS/ANZ Conference to be held
     in Brisbane from 8-10 September 1999 to coincide with the Third
     Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art which opens at the
     Queensland Art Gallery on 9 September 1999.

     The ARLIS/ANZ Conference will provide an opportunity to network with
     colleagues to discuss issues relating to the place and future
     directions of arts libraries.  It also offers a unique opportunity to
     participate in the events surrounding the opening of the Third
     Asia-Pacific Triennal, to meet artists, curators and librarians from
     the region and to attend the Triennial Conference (10-12 September
     1999).

     The overall conference theme  is  =60Beyond the Future', which is also
     the theme of the Third Triennial.  Papers are sought on the topics of:

     =85 The Asia-Pacific and arts libraries
     This is a broadly based topic which could cover:  art libraries and
     special collections in the Asia-Pacific region=3B   library collections
     of historical and contemporary Asian, Pacific or Indigenous Australian
     art=3B  collection development =3B   print and electronic resources=3B
     digitisation projects=3B   regional cooperation=3B   and future =
directions.

     =85 =60Beyond the future' for arts libraries
     What is the future for arts libraries and collections?  Issues for
     discussion might include:  the =60virtual art library'=3B  digitisation
     and imaging projects (including cross-sectoral projects)=3B
     new museum buildings and how libraries are taking up the challenge of
     being more accessible to the museum's audiences=3B and future =
directions

     Please forward an abstract of 100 words and a short personal biography
