POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT LIBRARY ASSISTANT: TECHNICAL SERVICES OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA FULL-TIME JOB # 1315 March 1999 ORGANIZATION: Founded in 1907 at the height of the Arts and Crafts movement, CCAC is the largest regionally accredited, independent school of art and design in the western United States. Noted for the interdisciplinary nature and breadth of its programs, CCAC is organized around three principal academic units: Fine Arts, Design and Architecture. With campuses in Oakland and San Francisco, CCAC currently has an enrollment of approximately 1,100 full-time students. POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for timely and accurate ordering of all library collection materials, supplies and furnishings. Maintains accuracy of library accounts. Performs copy cataloging on Innopac cataloging system. Facilitates communication link for all library staff. Occasional travel to San Francisco campus may be required. REPORTS TO: Director of Libraries DEPARTMENT: Library RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Acquisitions: Pre-orders searches on OCLC and maintains on order & vendor files. Places and receives book, gift book, video and other orders for Meyer & Simpson Libraries, routes correctly and follows-up on order problems. Writes letters of acknowledgment for gifts. Maintains gifts database. Collects CCAC published materials for addition to Library archive. Accounting: Accurately issues POs and check requests for all library purchases. Deposits checks for order refunds, and revenue from book sales. Rectifies accounting disputes and mistakes. Keeps internal accounts via Excel. Works with CCAC Purchasing, Accounting, and Shipping Offices to maintain accurate orders, bills, and files. Technical processing: Hires, trains, and supervises student assistants to process all Library materials. Orders and maintains supplies for Library processing materials. Coordinates repairs. Changes item records accordingly. Works with Director to send books and serials for binding; corrects item records accordingly. Withdraws books from the collection, corrects item records accordingly. Works with Director to create and manage Library book sales. Cataloging: Searches on OCLC and imports to Innopac, incoming Library materials. Accurately identifies and processes serials, editions and added copies. Performs basic copy cataloging for Meyer Library material. Under the librarian s direction, generates and maintains authority records in the catalog. Creates other catalogs and databases as needed. Supervises check-in of serials in the Innopac serials module. Office Management duties: Picks up and distributes incoming mail on Oakland campus. Orders, maintains and issues check requests and PO's for office supplies and Library equipment. Works with Educational Technology to maintain staff PCs. Provides administrative support to the Library Director. Generates any statistical reports relevant to Technical Services using Innopac. Works with CCAC Operations department to maintain staff areas of Library. Other duties as required. Circulation backup as needed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One year Academic Library experience in technical services or equivalent. Copy cataloging and OCLC searching. Automated cataloging experience. Familiar with both Mac and PC platforms. SALARY: Commensurate with experience, including a comprehensive benefits package.
