Alex Ross' discussion of exhibition catalogs in the Dictionary of Art (vol.
3, pp 79 ff), under the general heading "catalogs," is certainly the best
succinct intro the to the topic. In addition to what other members have
offered, Tim Luke's book called "Shows of Force" (1992) is a fascinating
look at the blockbuster phenomenon including the ex cat.

Ray Anne,

What about chapter 5: "Exhibition Catalogues" by Anthony Burton in PhiLip
Pacey's _Art Library Manual: a Guide to Resources and Practices._ (1977)?
Other useful sources are listed in chapter 6 ("Exhibition,
Museum-Collection, Auction, and Trade Literature") of Lois Swan Jones' _Art
Libraries and Information Services: Development, Organization, and
Management._ (1986).

Best,

Janine Henri
