----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Hi all! I'd like to ask for opinions regarding a web-enabled database of historical photographs. A library in the Philippines is considering putting their digitized photo archive into a database and allowing this to be browsed through the Internet. Friends of mine who own a technology firm in Manila are considering bidding for the project, but would like to hear from other librarians before creating a proposal. Has anyone worked with anything like this? If so, what are the benefits/pitfalls? Is it worth doing? What about limiting access to library members (who have paid a fee) only? What kinds of value-added services can be introduced? And finally, what do you think of having the option to purchase high-resolution versions of the photos for commercial publication? Please reply directly to [log in to unmask] Thanks very much in advance! Therese
