Title: Librarian
Reports to: Director/Chief Curator

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Director/Chief Curator, the
Librarian has the responsibility of developing, organizing and
maintaining the library collection so that it is accessible and relevant
to the museum's holdings as well as the research needs of museum staff.

Qualifications: Excellent communication and strong organizational
skills; Knowledgeable with internet databases and on-line searches;
Grant-writing experience and knowledge of cataloging software
preferred.  MLS required; MA in art history or other advanced degree
preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:


   * Under the direction of the Director/Chief Curator, set all library
     policy according to the guidelines set by museum administration.
   * Provide research assistance to staff members, visiting scholars and
     the public.
   * Utilize interlibrary loan systems from the Chicago Library System,
     Archives of American Art and the INFO/DATA PASS program.
   * Provide cost analysis of library and contribute to departmental
     budget planning and implementation.
   * Augment library's collection of approximately 6,000 books, 15
     periodicals and slide collection through purchases, subscriptions,
     exchanges and gifts.
   * Catalogue all new acquisitions and materials.
   * Monitor the circulation of all library materials; maintain and
     develop the library's slide collection.
