----------------------------Original message---------------------------- As part of its 25th anniversary celebration, the ARLIS/New York Chapter awarded an honorary lifetime membership to William Bond Walker, one of its long-time members. Serving as the Arthur K. Watson Chief Librarian at the Metropolitan Museum of Art from 1980 until 1994, "Bill" was very involved in the Art Libraries Society on both the local and national levels, and in the International Federation of Libraries (IFLA), on the international level. As head of Watson Library, he participated in many cooperative adventures to help support electronic conversion of the Library's holdings in preparation for an online catalog. One important effort was to help establish the Art Library Consortium (AMLAP), a joint program involving the Metropolitan Museum, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Modern Art and Brooklyn Museum of Art libraries, who cooperated on fundraising for retrospective conversion projects in all four institutions. He was warm and friendly to his colleagues, truly supported the exchange of research materials and fostered cooperation between institutions. Art librarians who worked with him at the Watson and in the art community as a whole have admired his leadership qualities and regard him as a mentor and role model. Please join the New York Chapter and congratulate Bill for this lifetime membership award.
