Rebecca Miller Hoort, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, Receives
1999 VRA Distinguished Service Award

Los Angeles -- February 14, 1999 -- Rebecca Miller Hoort, University of
Michigan, is the recipient of the Visual Resources Association's 1999
Distinguished Service Award.  The award was presented at the annual VRA
members reception which was held on February 10 at the Hotel
Inter-Continental Los Angeles in conjunction with the VRA annual
conference.

The Visual Resources Association annually honors an individual who has
achieved a high level of distinction in the field through leadership,
research, and service to the profession.  Rebecca Miller Hoort is the
twelfth winner of the Distinguished Service Award since it was first
awarded in 1988 to Christine Sundt, University of Oregon.  Last year's
winner was Brenda MacEachern, University of Western Ontario.

Ms. Hoort was honored for her years of dedicated service to the visual
resources profession as author, editor, and leader. Ms. Hoort recently
retired from the visual resources profession to explore a new career in
graduate student services as Graduate Coordinator with the Department of
Biology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Rebecca Miller Hoort served as Associate Editor of the VRA Bulletin from
1985-1996 and edited the Professional Issues column for the VRA Bulletin
from 1987-1997. She has written for the VRA Bulletin and Visual
Resources: An International Journal of Documentation.  Ms. Hoort has
served on the Joint Art Libraries Society (ARLIS)/VRA Task Force on
Professional Issues, the  VRA Travel Awards Committee, and on the VRA
executive board as Vice President from 1991 to 1993.
