Full-time, tenure track, faculty position.  Reports to Head of Collection
Management and Special Services Department.  Rank commensurate with
credentials and experience.  Minimum annual salary = $ 33,000.  Start
date on or about May 1, 1999.

Duties:  Administers Art & Music section of library, including
supervising one Library Assistant and student employees.  Provides
reference assistance within section; serves on general reference desk.
Provides library instruction to students/faculty in group sessions and via
electronic and print media.  Bibliographer / library liaison for disciplines
/ academic departments of Art, Music, and Design.  Collection
Management duties include development and assessment of collections.
Duties require working with microcomputers in a networked environment.
Participation on library committees and professional associations is
expected, as is ongoing research, scholarship, and/or creative work.

Required: ALA-accredited MLS or international equivalent; degree in
musicology or music; minimum of two years professional library
experience.  Demonstrated evidence of: strong commitment to public
service; effective oral, written, and interpersonal skills, including the
ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff.

Preferred:  Second master's degree; degree in art or design;  experience
as music librarian; supervisory experience.

The University of Northern Iowa, with an enrollment of 13,000 students,

661,000 microforms, 535,000 documents, 41,000 maps, 11,978
recordings, and more than 3,000 periodical subscriptions with extensive
public access to Internet and proprietary on-line databases.  Faculty and
staff of 58 [FTE] assisted by 28 students [FTE].  Budgeting sources for
Access Services Department include the Library's Auxiliary Services
Budget.  The Library has employed an Innovative Interfaces Integrated
Online Library System since 1989.  Since 1996, Rod Library has been a
member of the technology-based Cedar Valley Library Consortium,
sharing its Innovative System with consortium members (at present Cedar
Falls Public Library and Hawkeye Community College.)  For further
