----------------------------Original message----------------------------
I recently completed barcoding approximately 10,000 items in my library. If
you want specifics please email me or call. I made decisions that may be
regretted 50 years from now but generally all books received barcodes except
Rare, Special Collections, pre-1920's and anything published in 20th century
which if not presently, will in the near future obviously be of intrinsic
value. RAre book slips are prepared for these items and the barcode is put on
this slip. These first 10,000 were smart barcodes and volunteers completed
this project for me, to 99% of my satisfaction (i.e. the correct ones in their
respective books and almost none put in the categories listed above).
I do not circulate either, just to staff and ILL. Since my circulation is
low I do not use a scanner to read them so with second thoughts I might have
just pencilled in a barcode number and not actually attached them to the item.
Time will tell.
