PRESS RELEASE

Nominations Sought for the 1999 Dartmouth Medal

The Dartmouth Medal Committee of the American Library Association's
Reference and User Services Association is seeking nominations for
this award honoring "achievement in creating reference works
outstanding in quality and significance."  The term "creating
reference works" may include (but is certainly not limited to)
"writing, compiling, editing or publishing books" or providing
"information in other forms for reference use" -- such as computerized
databases.  Works published or made available for the first time in
1998 are eligible.  Additional information on the Dartmouth Medal
Award is available from http://www.ala.org/work/awards/awards.html .

The award is a bronze medal designed by Rudolph Ruzicka and donated by
Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH.  The medal will be presented at the
American Library Association's Awards Ceremony during the 1999
American Library Association's Annual Conference.

To nominate a reference work for the 1999 Dartmouth Medal, please
complete the short nomination form available below.

The Dartmouth Medal Award Committee will meet at the 1999 American
Library Association Midwinter Conference in Philadelphia to select a
winner. The Deadline for nominating a work is December 15, 1998
