----------------------------Original message---------------------------- A DePaul University faculty member is looking information on 12 canonization paintings of Vincent DePaul done by Detroy, Galloche, Resout, Seret (or Siret) and Andre. The paintings had all been confiscated and dispersed during the French Revolution. The faculty member has a colleague in Paris who told her the information she seeks is available through the Getty's Provenance Index and he got it somehow via computer. According to the Getty homepage on this subject, there are two parts to the Provenance Index, the Inventories Database and the Sale Catalogues. But nothing seems to be searchable online, only via cd-rom. University of Illinois seems to have the sale catalogues, but no one there could help today. E-mailed to the Getty went unanswered. Can anyone shed light on what she may need and how she can gain access? DePaul University is in the Chicago area. Thank you very much for your consideration. Susan Clarke [log in to unmask]
