I have always objected to placing barcodes on the outside of our books
because they have a tendency to peal off at the edges and I have actually
seen several books "sticking together" because of the barcode adhesive.
Also, so often we have plates on our covers--front and/or back--and I have
seen too many of these defaced by barcode labels.  bj irvine
