This is an editorial-type response to Modern Library's recently published list of the "best" 100 English novels of the 20th century. Marc Sheaffer of Brodart Book Services wrote this and ends by asking any and all librarians to email him with a list of top five all time favorite novels. So I sent mine in: Sixteen Pleasures--no surprise there, Trinity and Redemption by Leon Uris, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood and Old Man and the Sea. When I emailed my choices to him, he replied, asking me to encourage other librarians to respond, too. His email address is: [log in to unmask] If you mention my name in your email, and 25 or more respond, my library will get a free bestseller of our choice. I don't think he's getting a financial benefit out of this, but if this appears commercial to you, please don't put my message up on the listserv.
