The server is probably not started. ----------------------------Original message---------------------------- ***ARLIS/NY invites you to a tour of Woodlawn Cemetery*** When: Saturday, October 24, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Where: Woodlawn Cemetery, the Bronx (meet at the main gate) The cemetery is bounded by Jerome Ave., E. 233rd St., Webster Ave., Bainbridge Ave., and E. 211st St. By subway: Take the 2 or 5 to Gun Hill Rd./White Plains Rd., or the 4 to Woodlawn/Jerome Ave. By car: Take the Bronx River Parkway to E. 233rd St. exit, or the Major Deegan Expressway to E. 233rd St. and Jerome Ave. to the intersection of Bainbridge Ave. Park inside cemetery gates. What: The tour will be led by Roberta Halporn, Founder and Director of the Center for Thanatology Research and Education. Ms. Halporn's latest publication is "New York is a Rubber's Paradise: A Guide to the Cemeteries of New York in the Five Boroughs," published in 1998. Woodlawn's first burial took place in 1865. Today there are over 250,000 people buried in the cemetery, including such notables as Fiorello La Guardia, Duke Ellington, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Herman Melville.
