----------------------------Original message---------------------------- New Executive Director takes helm of Art Libraries Society of North America RALEIGH, NC-- On October 1, Ashley Prather will take the reins as the Art Library Society of North America s (ARLIS/NA) newest executive director, replacing Penney De Pas, CAE, who has served in that capacity since August 1, 1994. The director change comes as a result of management fee negotiations between the Executive Board of the Society and Olson Management Group, Inc., (OMG), the firm managing the Society s operations. The change will enable De Pas, a senior executive with the firm and a Certified Association Executive, to serve OMG s growing client associations while capping ARLIS/NA s management fee into next special short fiscal year. The Executive Board greatly appreciates Penney's devoted service to ARLIS/NA and wishes her every success with her new challenges. In relinquishing her role, De Pas said, "It has been exciting to see the many changes the Society has experienced during my tenure: implementation of its first Strategic Plan, the evolution of business conducted electronically, the development of the ARLIS/NA Web site, the emergence of ARLIS/Canada, etc. I wish the Society much success for its future." For the past five years the Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA) has employed Olson Management Group, Inc. (OMG) of Raleigh, NC, as its management service provider. It has been five years since the entire range of the Society's management options were thoroughly reviewed. The opportunity to review management options coincides well with changes occurring at OMG itself. Mike Olson, founder and owner of OMG, recently accepted a most prestigious position as President of the American Society of Association Executives and will be selling his firm in the near future. Prather joined OMG in 1993 in the accounting department and worked on the financial aspects of ARLIS/NA s headquarters transition from Tucson to Raleigh in 1994. Subsequently, she was named OMG s office administrator, overseeing the firm s finances and human resources. In December 1997, Prather moved into working directly with associations in the membership arena. She graduated from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro with a bachelors degree in Sociology and Social Work. The rest of OMG's fine ARLIS/NA staff, including Cheryl Weisz, Conference Manager; Kim Woodard, Membership Director; and Elizabeth Stark, support staff will remain the same. Access to the staff will also remain the same (telephone, fax, email, etc.). A very smooth transition is anticipated. The Art Libraries Society of North America, founded in 1972, is devoted to fostering excellence in art librarianship and visual resources curatorship for the advancement of visual arts.
