Watson Library, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, invites applications for the following positions: LIBRARY ASSOCIATE FOR ACQUISITIONS The Library Associate for Acquisitions is responsible for the acquisition of library material in multiple formats excluding serials. Using the acquisitions component of Watsonline this position selects vendors; uses RLIN to enter bibliographic records; creates acquisitions records; and checks in material. Responsibilities include processing invoices for payment, assisting in tracking book budget, and maintaining the accuracy of the acquisitions component of the database. Maintains correspondence and assists in continuing effective working relationships with booksellers throughout the world. This position reports to the Acquisitions Coordinator and to the Assistant Head of Technical Services. LIBRARY ASSOCIATE FOR CATALOGING AND PROCESSING The Library Associate for Cataloging and Processing is responsible for searching RLIN for bibliographic records; physically processing and labeling library materials; creating item records; insuring that materials are distributed to proper location and patrons; insuring that rush materials are processed in a timely manner; working on projects; and searching for missing materials. This position reports to the Assistant Head of Technical Services. LIBRARY ASSISTANT FOR ACQUISITIONS AND CATALOGING (PART-TIME: 28 HOURS PER WEEK) The Library Assistant for Acquisitions and Cataloging is responsible for searching RLIN for cataloging records; preparing library materials for shipment to bindery; creating item records; assisting with processing of library materials; creating order records; and assisting in acquisitions processing. This position reports to the Assistant Head of Technical Services. LIBRARY ASSISTANT FOR SERIALS (PART-TIME: 14 HOURS PER WEEK) The Library Assistant for Serials is responsible for assisting the Serials Librarian in various aspects of operation of the Serials Department; maintaining records in the online catalog; preparing volumes for binding; and assisting other staff members in the coverage of the serials room and telephones. This position reports to the Serials Librarian. Qualifications for the above positions include BA degree; knowledge of one foreign language; library experience, preferably in technical services; knowledge of PCs and Windows; ability to work flexibly and creatively in a changing environment; ability to work independently; ability to do detail work accurately; and ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
