For those of you who have not heard or those who have not yet
registered, there is still room for you to attend the 25th Anniversary
celebration of ARLIS/WNY. This conference on the Arts & Crafts Movement
in Western New York will be held at beautiful Chautauqua New York.
Chautauqua was a Victorian community, active during the arts and crafts
movement. Those of you who have never been to Chautauqua are in for a
real treat. This is a community frozen in time. During the summer, no
cars are allowed in the town as all, and most of the original stuctures
are still in use. The community borders a lovely lake and in the fall,
should be especially lovely.

For those who need more academic factors to entice them, we have an
impressive line-up of speakers.
Jack Quinan of SUNY Buffalo will do an overview of the Arts & Crafts
Movement in Western New York. He has been instrumental in acquiring and
funding the restoration of the Martin House, one of Frank Lloyd Wright's
premier Prairie Home in Buffalo.
David Cathers, author of "Furniture of the Americcan Arts & Crafts
Movement" will speak on Gustave Stickley and Western NY furniture
designers.
Margaret Carney, Curator of the International Museum of Ceramic Art, in
Alfred, will speak on Ceramicist Charles Fergus Binns. Her book may be
out by conference time.
Nancy Green, Curator of Prints, Drawings and Photographs at Cornell's
Johnson Museum will speak about Arthur Wesley Dow's influence on the
Arts and Crafts Movement.
Marie Via, co-author of "Head, Heart and Hand: Elbert Hubbard and the
Roycrofters" will speak on identifying Arts and Crafffts style in the
decorative arts.
Marilyn Fish will speak and demonstrate the "New Craftsman Index" which
accompanies the new edition of "Craftsman" on CD-rom, published by
interactive Bureau.

We will also spend a day in East Aurora, at the Roycroft campus,
touring, shopping, seeing bookbinding by Robert Rust and lunch at the
recently restored Inn, with a talk by Jean France, Architectural
Historian who was instumental in the saving of this historic structure.
