Opening for a reference librarian, Grade 9,  in the Research and
Scholars Center, National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian
Institution.  The incumbent is an assistant to the Manager of the museum's
Reference Desk, an art-specific digital (email) reference service
launched in 1993 and accessible to the public from the museum's Web
site, and assumes responsibility for the daily activities in the absence of
the Manager of the project.

DUTIES:
Answers reference questions received by e-mail via the museum's
Reference Desk; performs literature searches using a variety of print and
electronic resources; composes timely, informative, articulate responses
to questions received; assists in the development / re-design of the
Reference Desk; performs preliminary research to identify possible
funding sources to insure the continuance of the project.

REQUIREMENTS:
ALA-MLS, demonstrated knowledge of American art history and
research methodology, ; experience with electronic resources in the field
of art, art history, bibliography; excellent written  communication skills;
familiarity with mark-up protocols (HTML/SGML/XML); knowledge of
computer applications, including word processing and scanning.

SALARY:
Starting salary: $32,457
