       Art and Art History Specialist/Reference Librarian
                    Lockwood Memorial Library


     The Art and Art History Specialist/Reference Librarian
provides general and specialized reference/information services
and instruction programs in Lockwood Library.  As a Subject
Specialist, the librarian is responsible for development of
collections, the provision of specialized research services to
faculty and students in support of the curriculum and research
needs of the departments of Art and Art History, and management
of the appropriate acquisitions funds.

     The librarian is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the
integration of electronic resources in the curriculum and in
library services.  The librarian provides collaboration and
expertise in graphic design for the Lockwood Online website and
the University Libraries website.  The librarian also actively
participates in the relevant Technology Node on campus, in the
proposed IDEAS Center (Integrated Digital Exploration in the Arts
and Sciences), and actively collaborates with faculty on specific
projects and to insure continuing response to changes in
curricular and research trends.

     The librarian has specific responsibilities and engages in
projects related to collection analysis and collection management
as directed by the Coordinator of Collection Development.  These
responsibilities may include, but are not limited to,
preservation assessment, gift book processing, format decisions
and selection/  organization of materials for possible digitizing
(emphasis on art images), and an additional specialist assignment
if needed by Lockwood Library.

     The librarian engages in the preparation of library guides
in web and print formats and in special projects as assigned by
the Coordinator for Reference and Instruction.  The librarian
also actively participates in the team management structure of
Lockwood Library, in University Libraries committees and task
forces, and other duties as assigned.  Some evening and weekend
hours are part of the librarian's regular schedule.  The Art and
Art History Specialist/Reference Librarian keeps up to date on
issues in collections management, digitizing of materials and
images, website graphic design, public services, electronic
resources and services in libraries on the local, regional, and
national levels.

     The position is a tenure-track position with faculty status,
reporting to the Director of Lockwood Memorial Library.

REQUIREMENTS:  Master's degree from an ALA accredited program;
undergraduate or advanced degree or documented experience in Art,
Art History, or Graphic Design; knowledge and enthusiasm about
electronic resources and web-based information resources and
services; one year's experience in public services (may be as
intern, practicum, or graduate assistant) in a research library
are required.  Reading knowledge of a European language is
desirable.

RANK and SALARY: Assistant Librarian ($27,000 or higher) or
Senior Assistant Librarian ($32,000 or higher).  Rank and salary
are commensurate with experience and education.

Law) and two branches, the library system subscribes to over
22,357 serials and periodicals, has 4.4 million microforms,
government documents and extensive electronic resources.
